About Us

The Tillamook County Library Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. Founded in 1989 with a donation of $100, the Foundation’s resources have grown slowly, but steadily. Now, after 30 years, the Foundation manages an endowment of nearly $300,000.
What is an endowment? An endowment is an accumulation of cash gifts that are invested. The interest earned on the investments can be spent. The principle—the amount of the cash gifts—cannot be spent. As the endowment grows, the interest earned grows, thereby providing greater benefit to the six libraries of the Tillamook County Library System – North Tillamook County Library, Rockaway Beach Library, Garibaldi Library, Bay City Library, South Tillamook County Library, and the Tillamook Main Branch. The endowment and the interest it generates cannot be used for regular Library System operating expenses.
Tax-deductible contributions support the Foundation’s work in enhancing the Tillamook County Library System. Spendable income for Foundation use is augmented by Miss Tilly donations and proceeds from the Library Bookstore located in the Tillamook Main Branch.
The Foundation was the predominant fundraiser for the building of the new Main Library branch. Over the years, Foundation funds have been used to support the library system’s programs, the guest author series, and equipment purchases. Seed money from the Foundation gave a jump-start to the Book Club Kits. The Foundation operates the Library Bookstore, both as a fundraiser and a service to the people of Tillamook County.
The Foundation purchased property adjacent to the west side of the Main Library branch in 2014. This lot is the designated site for a Library Park. A Park Work Group was formed in April 2018 with a vision of creating an oasis that will serve as an outdoor space for the community, a venue for music and theater, and as a unique place that invites relaxation and flights of imagination for the people of Tillamook County.
